New but trusted face at the head of Bancontact

As of 1 January 2017, Kim Van Esbroeck (Leuven, 38) is the new CEO of Bancontact Company. She has over 15 years of experience in the sector of card payments and has moved up from her role as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Commercial Officer to CEO. She succeeds Kris De Ryck, who will entirely focus on his activities as CEO of Belgium Mobile ID.

In recent months, this switch at the top of Bancontact has been thoroughly prepared. After an extensive internal and external selection procedure, Kim Van Esbroeck has emerged as the best candidate. “She has unanimously convinced us with her extensive knowledge of the sector and her ambitious vision of the future development of Bancontact’s market leadership”, says Ivo De Meersman, president of the board of directors.

Kim Van Esbroeck has a master’s degree in physics and artificial intelligence (KU Leuven) and has worked for payment specialists Integri (quality control) and Clear2Pay (payment software). Mid 2011, Van Esbroeck, Kris De Ryck and technical director Philippe Kempeners, were the designers of the new Bancontact Company. As its Chief Commercial Officer, she has significantly contributed to the current commercial success of Bancontact.
